BUDDY HOLLY HALL OF PERFORMING ARTS

PERFORMING ARTS // BALLET SCHOOL

DIAMOND AND SCHMITT ARCHITECTS

The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts is a world class musical venue encompassing a central 2,300 seat theatre, a smaller 600 seat theatre, a ballet school, and several other amenities.  The design is inspired by the local rock formations, the vast Texan sky, and the colours of the fields and sandstone. There were two significant design challenges. The first is the extreme West Texas weather, which ranges from dust storms and tornadoes to snow and floods. The second is the acoustical demands of having a wide range of performances held in the theatre -from rock to classical; and the complexities of designing a space that feels comfortable in jeans, or in a suit, depending on the venue. I worked on this project from design development, through until final tender. I focused on the front of house, helping design and detail several key elements, such as the box office, the feature stair, the donour wall, and the overall lobby space.
