GROVES MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
P3 ONTARIO HOSPITAL COMPETITION
DIAMOND AND SCHMITT ARCHITECTS
The Groves Memorial Community Hospital was a public private parnership competition for a Southern Ontario Regional Hospital. The planning and organization of program for the hospital was meticulously analysed to provide the most efficient and clear path of travel for the public, staff, and patients. The interior design is based on the leading aspects of biophilic design: the incorporation of natural materials, natural light, vegetation, and outdoor views cumulate to play off of the inherent human inclination to affiliate with nature. Local, natural material was chosen for both the interior and exterior material palette. On this project, I helped develop the interior design. I detailed the interior partitions, helped design key interior spaces, and rendered important interior views, such as the lobby, patient rooms, and waiting areas. I also personally fully designed and assembled the final presentation model, using in-house laser cutting and 3D printing technology.
