METAMORPHOSIS
URBAN ECOLOGICAL NODES
UNDERGRAD
Modern urban cores contain the densest aggregations of human population to ever occur. Gloomily, these current conditions lead to a destruction of flora and fauna. This project aims to intermittently transform towers to help rewilden urban cores. Using the existing vertical structures of skyscrapers, ecological and sustainable conditions can be added to the facade and roofs of these towers. From this added infrastructure, flora is given the opportunity to thrive in higher than typical altitude. Using this height, as well as the mechanical systems in commercial towers, pollen and seeds naturally grown on the renovated facades of buildings disperse in vast radii. Given the appropriate foothold, these blown pollen and seeds would help animate and rewilden environments that, until now, have been designed to accomplish the opposite. Economically, this system can be driven by the pre-existing short lifespan of modern curtain wall assemblies -as a new cladding needs to be replaced, this ecological system is introduced.
